Moving FAQ: Where Can I Get Free Moving Boxes in NYC? April 27, 2012 No Comments
NYC moving can be costly, this is why every solution to save some money is more than welcomed. Finding free moving supplies, such as used moving boxes can reduce the overall relocation expenses, so why not collect resources for your moving day in advance?
Cutting down the moving costs can be a reasonable decision because packing boxes are used generally only for a short time.
Because many users ask us what are the best places to find moving boxes for free, we compiled a list that might be useful in your quest of hunting free boxes:

- Social networks. Why not ask your friends, family or acquaintances? Maybe they can provide you with some used packing boxes that there currently do not need or maybe they may know somebody that moved recently and would like to get rid of boxes.
- Workplace. Sometimes the best solutions are just around the corner. If you work in an office that receives regularly supplies, such as paper or equipment, you might be lucky. This way, you can collect quality moving boxes in good condition
- 5. Retail & grocery stores. these locations receive shipments on a daily basis and these can be a valuable source of free quality boxes, especially from bookstores or shoe stores. If you consider going to grocery stores, it might be best to choose apple boxes, as they are more suitable for moving.
- Starbucks & McDonald’s. Starbucks receives twice a week product supplies that come in boxes of different sizes that can be adjusted to various moving needs. In addition, according to some online sources, fry boxes might be great for packing heavy items.

Spring is Here! Need Help with Your Move? March 29, 2012 No Comments
Waking up from the winter lethargy, you might think it is a good time to move on and find a new home for your family or your office. Relocation in the spring is pleasant, indeed: the weather is just right, the spring cleaning cannot be avoided and spring is a new start for everyone, after all
Even though summer is preferred for moving most of the time, spring relocation might be a more suitable decision. If you have elder members in your family, it is best to protect them from the hot and humid summer air that might lead to dehydration, fatigue and other weather related health problems.
Also, if you want to book a NYC moving company, it can be more easy to find a free moving day according to your needs and schedule, especially if you don’t have kids at school.
Packing your belongings remains an unpleasant job even during your spring move, but the general moving best tips apply in this situation as well.
Don’t forget to categorize on a list all the things that must be packed. Tidying up your rooms might spare you of stress and irritation and try to focus on one area at a time.
Concentration and planning will help you to procrastinate less and pass quicker the “packing test”. Also, it’s best to donate, sell or just get rid of items that are no longer used. It will really mark a fresh new start in your life!

How to Move The “Coolest” Item…The Fridge! February 27, 2012 No Comments
Moving the heaviest items from our house might be the biggest challenge during the moving process. Let’s revise the basic steps to move the “coolest” and coldest kitchen item– the fridge!
First of all, it may seem easy enough to manage transporting a refrigerator, but don’t forget that it is not just a simple piece of furniture and you should do the moving properly in order to not damage its mechanism and cooling tubes. Extra help might be needed in most cases and some supplies, as well.
As moving supplies, during the transportation, it’s best to have at hand a moving dolly, straps and tape.
________________________________________________________________________________
Step 1: Remove the content. Refrigerator should be prepared for the transportation, first by clearing all the items. Do not forget the freezer! Defrosting is another important aspect and as it takes several hours, it’s better to leave the fridge to unfreeze overnight. Also, be sure that the doors will remain closed by securing them with tape. The shelves must be secured as well.
Step 2: Transportation. For this kind of item, you should better use proper equipment. A dolly can be of great help. Place the refrigerator on the dolly and move it away from the wall. Don’t position it on the side and carefully pull it up the moving truck ramp.
Finally, it’s always recommended to read the original manual of instructions, as it might contain safety information during transportation, too. Internet is another great source of inspiration and how-to’s and video tutorials, but if you might need extra help from ny professional movers, there are plenty of nyc movers you can call.

Relocation News: Moving Company Scam in the News Again January 27, 2012 No Comments
Unfortunately, we hear often on the news about moving company scams and in the past we made efforts to inform our current or potential clients about the risk of being mislead by unreliable movers with bad reputation. Of course, it is unpleasant to see such negative news that affects the whole moving industry. As we mentioned before, trust is essential in moving services, it’s hard to obtain it and easy to lose it. From this perspective, it is our duty to offer the best advice to online users, especially if they consider moving their belongings in the near future.
Below you can find an excerpt from the DailyRecord that presents the case of a woman from NJ, who was scammed by a fictitious moving company:
________________________________________________________________________________
“A woman who moved this month from Ridge Road in the township to New York state is missing the entire contents of her five-room home in what authorities say looks like a moving company scam.
The victim, who wishes to remain anonymous, told Jefferson police on Jan. 5 that the moving company, NJ Elite Movers of Garfield, quoted her $1,500 to relocate her to a new home in Chestnut Ridge, N.Y.
The movers packed her stuff into their truck and then told her she would have to pay an additional $600, according to her statement to police. She agreed the company would take possession of her belongings until she paid in full. When she tried to schedule delivery the following week, she found the phone number had been disconnected, police said.
Jefferson Police Capt. Eric F. Wilsusen said his department has been in touch with the Garfield police about the incident [..].” The entire story can be read here
In conclusion, it’s important to mention that if you need to book a moving company:
- Be sure that it gave you an accurate estimate
- Discuss all the details before the actual move
- Check for credentials, company’s profile on Better Business Bureau
- Check if there are any complains on the online communities
- Trust moving companies with experience, recommended by your friends and family

Companies as Global Travelers January 23, 2012 No Comments
Relocation is a fast-moving business, literally and figuratively
, that’s why we, at Empire Movers, try to be up to date with everything related to residential, corporate moving and in general every aspect concerning relocation and moving.
________________________________________________________________________________
Recently we have found an interesting article by Chicago Tribute regarding corporate relocation and we would like to share the main aspects with you. It emphasizes an important shift in the way businesses develop today, as companies are not defined by a certain place, town or location anymore. They become “global nomads”, as the author stated. Disneyland is no longer about Orlando, Florida and KFC is not about Kentucky. In the past, location was tied to the company’s brand, but this statement is no longer valid:
“Technology and globalization have accelerated the corporate relocation trend by making it easier to communicate and move products anywhere in the world.”
“In recent years some of the more high-profile relocations include Boeing leaving Seattle for Chicago, and Philip Morris relocating from New York to Richmond, Va. Illinois lost Newell Rubbermaid to Atlanta; Northrop Grumman shifted from California to the Washington, D.C., area. Chiquita left Cincinnati after Charlotte, N.C., offered a hefty incentives package.”
This corporate mobility could be explained by the economic efforts of different cities and regions that compete with each other in order to attract investors, offering financial stimuli, low taxes and infrastructure.
“Companies need to ask themselves would they be an effective, more profitable business, elsewhere, is a question companies ask today more often because they have more options.”
